An Evening Walk

A walk along the cliff tops,
Waves pounding on the rocks below.
The sun sets in the distance,
Flooding orange light  across the sky.
A motor sounds over the water,
Heard long before it is seen.
The coast guard keeps a watch,
As the silent walkers roam the cliff top path.

The meeting in Cornwall!!

After a very long drive we end up in a country farm cottage down a half mile long gravel track in Cornwall, right by the sea. This is where I meet some of Duncan's family. Lucky we had one of the boys in the car as Duncan drove past the lane!! "You just past my house" calls Alex. I meet Duncan's sister, Kim and husband Duncan who is carrying Rory in his arms, Charlie is swinging from a tree branch!!

A drink of apple juice and a look round the garden, whilst the children play. Then we take a walk along the cliffs to the coast guard look out. The sun was shining for a change! It maybe summer but this year has not been great, more rain than sun so a walk was just the thing to make the most of a rare sunny evening. With great views out to sea and across the cliff tops, but so quiet with no one around. A rescue boat goes past, maybe a bit of training, as the coast guard looks out to sea. We do a loop out to a car park on the cliff top and back round towards home. Working up an appetite for some dinner and some Pimms!!

Portsmouth Kite Festival

Despite the on off summer weather we headed down to Southsea to the yearly kite festival. A free event showing many different kites from all over the world. Saw many kites including a mermaid, a horse, school bus and a lot of stunt kites. Although it rained on the walk there it stayed dry and the sun even came out once we were there. The grey sky helped to construct some dramatic photos especially when the sun came out and shone on the kites. Good practice on the SLR!! After a lap around the ground we took a look at a few kite stores as well as some craft stores and a bit of cheese tasting, which ended up with a purchase of cheddar with olives. We nearly got some cakes on the way back but decided that we could make our own cream teas at home, which turned out a lot nicer!! Homemade cherry scones with jam and clotted cream yum!!

The Beginning

While studying at university I liked the idea of becoming a travel writer and gave it a go while traveling in Australia.  Initially I wrote for a local newspaper and had several articles published during a year out when I travelled round the world, visiting Bankok, Australia, Fiji & Vancouver.  After several years away from writing I am hoping to return and build on what I have already done.  I have decided to try again through writing some blogs to try and help me be more creative and get back into the world of writing. Although travel writing is not as glamorous as many would think it is still a route I'd like to explore. As well as travel writing I would like to keep my options open and maybe look into fiction writing and see if I have a book in me.  I have previously written poems and short storied but not had any published so this route will hopefully let me explore all routes and see where I end up.  I am not ready to give up!! Please feel free to add comments and helpful advice to help me along my way.  I have many ideas and hopefully blogging will help me expand some of these thoughts and ideas and make something of them.
